| from an espn article...hilarious, especially the comment about sam cassell. i mean it's mean and all, but honestly hilarious.
I think Isiah Thomas has a high creep factor, but Barkley was
absolutely right when he recently accused the media and fans of ripping
the soon-to-be ex-New York Knicks coach, but giving Miami Heat coach
Pat Riley a "Get Out Of Criticism" pass. He was right about the
Washington Wizards' being "the dumbest team in the history of
civilization." And he was right when, after seeing a photo of the
E.T.-ish Sam Cassell, he simply said, "Phone home." | | |
| I went to my first Veritas forum at Columbia yesterday. (it was only a 15-20 walk
from my place. ) It was pretty engaging.
I actually was very alert at listening and processing both the questions
and Tim Keller's responses.
Like his sermons, Keller's responses were clear, concise,
and made the seemingly complicated understandable. It's especially evident when he drew from
philosophical sources and ideas.
However, what I find most impressive about Keller's isn't his sermons,
his humor, or his eloquent responses, but rather, I was encouraged by his
humility yesterday.
I'm taking this class where they find that the modern church resembles the modern culture in that the attendees value personality over
character. Though Keller has both, what
stands out in consideration to his fame and influence is his dependence on God
- knowing his own limitation - and the grace in which he delivered his
answers. This was especially noticed when he consciously and carefully
framed his responses in order to avoid bashing or putting down other churches
and ministers. If anything, that is a
rarity not only in fundamental churches, but also among the newer post-modern
churches.
This is one of the first things you learn in seminary, to
not bash other pastors/ministers. But it
seems like it also one of the first things you forget. It was great seeing how complete Keller is
with his approach to the ministry, and the importance of being full of God
instead of being full of himself. I once
heard Paul Shepherd say, “I'm just the mailman delivering the message.” I think Keller is great mailman!
BTW, I love mailman-s. :P Inside joke, but some of you guys
may get it.

| this past sunday has got to be one of the best superbowls i've seen. perhaps the one better is the titans and rams game a few years back. however, i was cheering really hard for giants because i dislike the pats - they're so snobbish.
in general, i always try to cheer for the character over talent. the
giants had both, but i thought they had much better character than the
pats, so i was elated when they won. i don't mean to exaggerate, but i
felt it was one of the occasions where cheating and arrogance was
defeated though it look so much that it would prevail.
i've been here 11 months, and new york has already won a championship. i work off broadway downtown, and got to cheer for the players as they "floated" bye today. i shouted so loud you would have think i was from new york or lived here for a long time. it was a good time. i tell sports is very unifying.....but when they wanted shouted "boston sucks", i didn't do it. nope, i have nothing against boston. i just don't like arrogant teams. maybe that's why i really really like the colts and the bears.
anyhow...i have no idea what i'm writing. i'm just smiling. the win has made my week. funny thing is very few ppl are working hard the last two days. the topic of conversation continues to be about the giants.
now..i have to go back to my home team. warriors and webber huh? interesting. :P

on a similar note...i wish had an apple! i have a dell from work now...arghh... man, once you get used to an apple, it's hard to go back.
anyhow..here's the song. i normalized the volume and put a bit of reverb in.

| Yep, I just wrote another song. Hmm…I don’t how it sounds though or if I’m using the right chords. I’ll try to record it and post it later. Remeber, I'm no musician, so don't expect much. :P
A little brief background….I was inspired to write the song this past Christmas. I spent the morning time with God in my car. The day was overcast, a bit gloomy, but then I saw a ray of light that came through the clouds. So it got my head churning. It was not until these past two weeks where I was able to determine the music and lyrics. It was rather gloomy here in NY, which helped me follow through on the song.
Here is explanation of the song:
“On a Day Like This”, is both literal and metaphorical for the state of life that reflects a yearning for more; that innately, we understand our burning for greatness, for glory. When we literally look at the skies on some days, we have to recognize there are days when it’s gloomy outside. On those days, the gloom makes us see the gloom in ourselves, and in this life.
There is suffering and pain in this life. We can all identify with that; we have all felt it. As a Christian, the gloom and pain can remind us of a gloomy day that son of God died on the cross. Abandoned, He took on the darkness of this life. In a great contrast, the darkness on Him became a light for us. It opened our eyes not to a god removed from this world, but rather, a God that engaged in the world to such an extent that He paid for all the pain and suffering in it – He died for us. His love and sacrifice became our light.
Therefore, though I still see the darkness and recognize the gloom, I am also reminded and assured that life is not without hope. Christ’s death and resurrection is the light that helps me see glimpses of restoration now, and more importantly, hang out for that day when restoration will be complete, suffering and pain will end, and His church will be brought to glory. (That I will be brought to glory) For now, I can look at life honestly because I can look at Him; somehow, that is what I need…
ON A DAY LIKE THIS
Verse 1:
I looked at the sky today It’s all covered, it’s all gray I cannot help but feel press down Darkness looms, it’s all around
On a day like this you see, My Savior bled, He died for me The ray of light, shine through the clouds, it gives me hope – that’s what I need
Chorus: Now I know the light has come, my eyes unveiled, I see….. Though the darkness frightens me, Your love was shown, I’m free…
My life, my hope, this light of yours, it shines on me
Verse 2:
I walk the streets today Many without home, many with pain I can’t help but wonder why Something wrong, something’s not right
On a day like this you see, He offer Himself, became life to me The ray of light, shine through the clouds, it gives me hope – that’s what I need
